I'm new to yoga. Which class should I try first?

This depends on a few factors including your current level of physical well-being, body awareness, and what you are wanting to gain from your yoga practice. We recommend that you start with a Candlelight Hatha or Hatha class to learn the names of the poses, develop your alignment in the poses and get a sense of your current physical baseline.

After a few Hatha classes, you may want to try our Hatha Flow classes which incorporate more movement between sequenced poses, timed with your breathe.

What do I need to bring to class?

What to Wear

The most important thing is to wear clothing that you can move comfortably in (stretchy apparel, t-shirt, shorts, etc). In the studio you will be barefoot so the soles of your feet can grip the mat. In the winter, a long sleeved shirt and socks are recommended for the end of class where we relax in a reclined pose on our mats.

Water

We encourage you to bring water to the studio to stay hydrated. We have a water cooler in the reception area, so you can fill your own water bottles.

Yoga Mat

Most students bring their own yoga mat, but we have mats in the studio that are available for you to use at no charge.

How early should I arrive for class?

Before your first class, show up 15 minutes early to fill out a short contact form and waiver. We will also orientate you with the studio facilities, sign in system, and go over any pre-existing issues that may affect your practice.

We open the studio 30 minutes before class starts so you are welcome to arrive during this time. We recommend you show up 10-15 minutes early to secure a spot in class. Weekend morning classes are the busiest times - but if you show up early, you will always get a spot.

The time before class is a great opportunity to sit, relax and breath, and prepare yourself for your yoga practice.

How many times a week should I come to class?

Everybody is different. The number of times you practice yoga a week depends on many things including the other physical activity you engage in, your state of health and the amount of free time you have. However many classes you choose to take, we do recommend that you set up a regular schedule week-to-week. This will allow to you witness a progression in your practice, and will allow your body and mind to become settled so you can achieve greater benefits from yoga.

Although yoga is designed to be a daily practice, Hatha yoga is a physical expression of yoga, and your body will need to rest between classes. After a higher intensity class like Hatha Flow, you may want to rest the next day or take a Gentle Hatha, Candlelight or Yin yoga class.

The most important things is that you listen to your body, and stay aware to the changes that your whole being will progress through while practicing yoga, both during class and outside the studio. If you are coming more than 2 times a week, you should consider an unlimited membership for the best value.

Do I need to pre-register to reserve my place in class?

No, most classes are drop-in with the exception of our pre-registered classes (check the schedule for classes highlighted in blue).

For our pre-registered classes (Prenatal Yoga, Mom & Baby), you can call, email or show up early for class to register.

For any class, drop-in or pre-registered, we recommend that you show up 10-15 minutes early to ensure your spot in class, and to give you time to relax before practice begins.
